Brick by Brick Change Takes Shape

Brick by Brick Change takes place

At Nuit Blanche 2026, Save the Children invited Toronto to help build a mural of Messie, a young woman from Sierra Leone, one brick at a time.

The interactive artwork reflects the work of the Foundations project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, that is helping girls and young women build confidence, access adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health information and services, make their voices heard, and shape their own futures.

Just as hundreds of individual bricks come together to reveal Messie’s inspirational portrait, lasting change is built through many different forms of support.

Discover the story behind the mural below.

MEET MESSIE

Messie is a young woman from Sierra Leone whose experience with the Foundations project shows what can happen when girls are given the space and support to participate, lead and be heard.

LAYING THE FOUNDATION FOR LASTING CHANGE

Since 2021, Save the Children’s Foundations project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, has been working in Mali, Niger, and Sierra Leone to help girls and young women build confidence, access adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health information and services, act on their rights, and make their voices heard.

By working with girls, families, health providers, and local organizations, the program is laying the foundation for lasting change and helping girls and young women shape their own futures.
